Privacy policy

This policy explains how CompareThem ("we", "us") handles personal data when you visit comparethem.co.uk, in line with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
Who is responsible
The controller is the publisher of CompareThem. Contact: contact@comparethem.co.uk.
What we collect
- Emails you send us: your address and message, used only to reply.
- Our own cookieless visitor counter, run on our own server: for each visit it records the page, the date, whether you arrived from an ad, the search keyword passed by the ad (if any), which link to a seller you clicked, how far you scrolled (50% / 90%), the referring website's domain, device type (mobile or desktop) and country. It sets no cookie, stores nothing on your device, does not store your IP address and cannot identify you.
- Google Analytics 4, when enabled: pages viewed, scrolling, clicks on links, device and browser type, approximate location (city level) and the ad or search that brought you here, used for aggregate statistics. Google sets first-party cookies (
_ga,_ga_<id>). When you follow a link to a seller, an identifier (_gl) may be added to the link so the visit can be measured across both sites. - Microsoft Clarity, only if enabled: aggregated heatmaps and session analytics showing how pages are used (clicks, scrolling, mouse movement). Clarity does not record what you type into forms. It sets cookies such as
_clckand_clsk. - Technical logs kept by our host (Cloudflare) for security and to deliver the site, for a short period.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site does not show a cookie banner. Our own visitor counter uses no cookies at all. We may use Google Analytics analytics cookies, and Microsoft Clarity only if it is enabled, to produce aggregate statistics; for those we rely on the exemption for statistical purposes added to the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and we give you a simple way to switch them off (below). Why and on what basis
Statistics tell us which pages are read and which links people follow, so we can improve the guides and see which ones are useful. We rely on our legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) and, for analytics cookies, on the statistical-purposes exemption in PECR as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, together with the simple opt-out below. Security logs and replies to your emails are based on our legitimate interests.
Your opt-out
You can turn off Google Analytics and Clarity on this site at any time on our cookie policy page. Your choice is saved in your browser and the tags no longer load. You can also block cookies in your browser or use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
Who receives the data
Cloudflare (hosting and our visitor counter), and, when enabled, Google (Analytics) and Microsoft (Clarity) as our processors. Some of them may process data outside the UK, under safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge. We do not sell your data.
How long we keep it
Emails: up to 2 years. Google Analytics data: 14 months. Clarity data: up to 13 months (Microsoft's default). Cookieless counter: up to 25 months, in aggregate form. Your opt-out choice: until you clear your browser's site data.
Your rights
You can ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction of your data, object to its use, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113). Email us to exercise these rights.
